Video taking too long to convert?
Is your video taking too long to convert?
This article explains the possible delay in converting videos on your Dashboard, emphasizing the following relevant points:
Upload and conversion
Whenever you upload a video to our Dashboard, two processes are started. The first is sending the video to the web, and the speed of this upload can vary according to factors such as your internet speed, network stability, among others.
Video conversion
The second process is converting the video into a compatible web format. After uploading, the video needs to go through an encoding process in order to be formatted in a way that is acceptable for the web. This process usually involves transcoding the original video into formats that are widely supported by browsers. In addition, multiple versions of the same video can be generated at different resolutions (e.g. 1080p, 720p, 480p) to support adaptive streaming, optimizing delivery according to the user's bandwidth.
Internet impact
Your internet connection does not directly impact the speed of video conversion. However, conversion delays can occur at times of high demand, when many people are uploading videos simultaneously. This generates a large flow of data and can create delays in conversion processes.
Video replacement
While the new substitute video is being converted, the old one continues to play. When it is finished, it automatically replaces the old one.
When can the videos start running?
The video can start playing as soon as the first converted version is available, usually in a lower resolution. This allows the user to watch the content, make some initial settings and also copy the embed code to use on their membership platform or own website, the video can already be watched by users while the other resolutions continue to be processed in the background. This method improves the user experience and reduces waiting times.
Status "Waiting for conversion"
The status " Waiting for conversion" means that the video has already been uploaded successfully (upload completed), but has not yet finished the conversion process to fully web-compatible formats and resolutions. In other words: The file is already on the platform's servers and is in the process of being converted, gradually releasing the initial qualities so that it can already be used.
What could make the conversion take longer than usual?
In some cases, video conversion can take longer than expected. This can happen for a number of reasons, the main ones being:
High demand on the platform: At peak times, when many users are uploading videos at the same time, there may be a queue waiting for the conversion to start. This can result in the status “ waiting for conversion” lasting longer than usual.
Video size and length: Longer videos or videos with a higher resolution (4K for example) require more resources to process, which naturally increases the conversion time.
Multi-resolution processing: When video needs to be converted to multiple resolutions (1080p, 720p, 480p, etc.), the total process time can extend, especially if the system prioritizes generating the lightest version for initial release.
Infrastructure updates or maintenance: Updates or adjustments to the platform's servers may occur from time to time, which may momentarily impact conversion speed.
Disabled or unavailable qualities
During the conversion process, the system usually generates several versions of the video in different resolutions (such as 1080p, 720p, 480p, etc.). When one of these resolutions appears as “Disabled” or “Unavailable”, this indicates that that particular resolution is not available for reproduction.
Veja o que pode causar isso:
Disable: This quality has been intentionally disabled - either by configuration on the platform, or because the original video is not of sufficient quality to generate this resolution with good performance. For example, a video uploaded in 720p will not be able to generate a 1080p version.
Unavailable: The resolution is temporarily inaccessible, possibly because the conversion of that quality has not yet been completed, failed during processing or is in a generation queue. This is common at times of high demand or if there has been an isolated technical error.
This clarification emphasizes the importance of understanding the processes involved in uploading and converting videos within your Dashboard. It is crucial to understand how demand, particularly at times of high activity, can play a significant role in the speed of this conversion process. By having this understanding, you will be better prepared to deal with the possible delay and optimize the management of your videos, ensuring a more effective and smooth experience.
