# Video Compression for New Uploads

Video compression is an essential factor in balancing **playback quality**, **bandwidth usage**, and **storage**.

With Panda Video’s **New Upload Compression** feature, you can choose exactly how your videos will be processed as soon as they are uploaded—whether your priority is saving resources or achieving maximum quality.

## What is New Upload Compression?

Compression defines the **level of optimization applied to videos at the moment of upload**.

This directly impacts:

* Final file size
* Bandwidth usage
* Visual quality of the videos

You can choose between three options:

### 1. Economical

* Smaller file sizes
* Slight reduction in quality
* Ideal for **VSLs and performance-focused videos**

### 2. Balanced

* Balance between quality and size
* Best cost-benefit ratio
* Ideal for **courses and general use**

### 3. Higher quality

* Maximum image quality
* Larger file sizes
* Ideal for **professional productions and 4K videos**

## How to change new upload compression

To change this setting in Panda Video:

1. Go to **Settings**
2. Click on the **Qualities** tab
3. Find the **New Upload Compression** section and click **Edit**
4. Choose your preferred option
5. Click **Confirm**

Done! The new setting will be applied automatically.

||| Changing the compression **does not affect videos already in your library**. **It will only apply to new uploads made after the change.**

## What’s the difference between Compression and Encoding for New Uploads?

These two settings are complementary, but they serve different purposes:

| Setting | What it does |
| ---- |
| **New Upload Compression** | Defines the quality level and final file size |
| **New Upload Encoding** | Defines which resolutions (360p, 480p, 720p, 1080p, 4K) will be generated |

In other words:

* **Compression** controls *how* the video is optimized
* **Conversion** controls *in which qualities* it will be available

## When should you use each option?
